Self-catering holiday accommodation in Oxford
Known as ‘The City of Dreaming Spires’, Oxford is famous the world over for its University and place in history, set on the edge of the Cotswolds. It is a great place to explore by foot, with its wide streets and an intricate network of narrow, cobbled lanes lined by honey-hued architecture branching off in every direction. Many of Oxford’s major attractions are in the city centre including the University of Oxford with its 38 colleges, the Bodleian Library and Oxford Castle, making it easy to explore from one of our Oxford holiday lets.
This bustling, cosmopolitan city in the heart of Oxfordshire is a favourite filming location for many famous films and TV shows such as Harry Potter and Inspector Morse – why not see if you can spot some familiar sights used as a backdrop as you enjoy your wander? Be sure to visit the Tudor dining hall at Christ Church which was used as the inspiration behind Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Great Hall.
With its mix of ancient and modern, there is plenty to see and do in Oxford; from fascinating museums and iconic historical places of interest, to world-class arts and culture, shopping ‘til you drop in its Covered Market or boutique shops, and an abundance of fine eateries and stylish bars to enjoy a cocktail or two. After a blissful night’s sleep in one of our Oxford cottages, climb to the summit of Carfax Tower for awe-inspiring views over the city, or enjoy a relaxing stroll along the Thames path. You can also experience a river cruise or try your hand at punting at Folly Bridge, Magdalen Bridge and Cherwell Boathouse, marvel the colourful Oxford Botanic Garden and admire outstanding art in the Ashmolean Museum.
When it’s time to refuel, a plethora of traditional pubs, award-winning restaurants, and friendly local bistros await – and if you’re seeking a well-earned break between shopping, there are plenty of Oxford cafes and tearooms serving frothy coffees and fresh pastries. Oxford is one of the last bastions of the great British pub – if you’re staying in one of our holiday homes in the city don’t miss the Turf Tavern, Bear Inn and the King’s Arms. Once you have experienced a holiday in Oxford you will want to return again and again. Why not capture the atmosphere of this uniquely beautiful university city with a break in one of our Oxford holiday cottages?
