This charming three-bedroom home from home lies in the friendly village of Blakeney, within the wonderful Forest of Dean. This area is a haven for walkers and cyclists, with a wide range of great trails to explore and bike hire available just 5 miles from your door. Puzzlewood, the ancient woodland that is a popular TV and film location, is just 8 miles away, while you can hop on the Dean Forest Railway 4 miles from the property. Adventurous guests might fancy Go Ape! (4 miles) or exploring the secret world beneath the forest at Clearwell Caves (8 miles). Symonds Yat, 16 miles away overlooking the River Wye, is a picturesque place for waterside walks – or why not take to the water for a spot of kayaking? If you prefer staying on dry land, Gloucester is only 16 miles from your holiday home and well worth a visit.

As soon as you step through the front door, you’ll feel right at home. The large lounge with two comfy sofas and a sturdy reading chair is the ideal spot for relaxing, and the wood burner-effect electric fire is there to take the chill off cooler evenings. Alongside the 43” Smart TV, which is perfect for a movie night in, there’s a great selection of novels, local guidebooks and maps, toys and board games to keep you entertained. The lovely characterful kitchen brims with charm: bespoke crafted cupboards combine with modern fittings and a contemporary six-seater dining suite. An archway leads you into the garden room, a perfect retreat for curling up on the vintage sofa with a good book while looking out on the courtyard garden. Upstairs, you’ll find three welcoming bedrooms: two of the rooms have views onto a country lane, one being a double and the other a super-king-size that can be set up as a twin on request. The third bedroom looks onto the garden and has a large comfy single bed. The bathroom includes a separate walk-in shower as well as a relaxing bath.

The enclosed garden is reached through double patio doors and is a real suntrap. It is on several levels and comprises old railway sleepers, flagstones, brick walling and feature slate ground covering. There is a coffee table with parasol and sunchairs, and a cosy summerhouse. The garden enjoys the sun from mid-morning until evening so pick your favourite spot. There is a gas BBQ and a six-seater dining table with a canopy sunshade. Parking is available for one small car, with additional parking in a small, free residential car park or on the lane.

  • 3 bedrooms: 1 super-king-size (which can be made up as a twin on request at the time of booking), 1 double, and 1 single (with additional full-size pull-out single – suitable for two children sharing the room. Please request at time of booking)

My friend and I thought that the cottage was great. Kate was really helpful and clear with her communications throughout, including sharing updates regarding the local road conditions (due to the storm) and letting us check out a bit later. The cottage is very nicely decorated and is very clean and homely, plus we were left a nice cake, biscuits anRead mored milk to welcome us! The location is ideal for the Forest of Dean. The only small downside is occasional music noise from the pub next door. Hide

We had a lovely stay at the cottage and it is perfectly placed for exploring the local area. It is really well equipped, had everything we needed and more than comfortably housed our family of 5 plus our 2 dogs. The hosts were very helpful and approachable and were happy to give recommendations about the local area etc. We would definitely stay herRead moree again as there is still much of the area we want to explore. We had a lovely winter break at the warm, comfortable and very well equipped Arch cottage. Pub literally on the doorstop, shop just across the main road. We found lots of public footpaths and winding narrow lanes to explore, doggy loved it. Would definitely stay again.
