Enjoying a secluded location within the peaceful village of Broadwell, this traditional cottage is perfect whatever the time of year. Broadwell sits a mile north of the vibrant market town of Coleford where guests have access to a range of local shops including a well-stocked deli, bakeries, pubs and restaurants. The area is renowned for the ancient forests, and is a scenic place to explore with lakes, cycle paths, downhill mountain bike trails and a local sculpture trail. The River Wye is also within easy reach where you can follow the Wye Valley Walk or hire a canoe or paddleboard. Other attractions include Puzzle Wood, which is used for the scenery in many famous films, Perrygrove Railway and Clearwell Caves, Hopewell Colliery, and Go Ape Beechenhurst (all within 5 miles). Or slightly further afield, visit Go Ape Mallards Pike, Lydney Harbour and Dean Forest Railway (all within 10 miles).

The cottage is set within its own grounds and accessed by the front door that offers access into the cosy lounge where guests can relax in front of the open fire – it’s also a great room for board games and a chapter of a good book. From here, you can access the rear of the cottage which is a lovely, fully open-plan space. A great kitchen area offers plenty of space access via 2 steps and well-equipped with everything a family would need for preparing meals. This opens onto a contemporary-styled dining area with a charming set of table and chairs for six guests, along with a delightful seating area with a large corner sofa and TV. This entire area enjoys natural light from the French doors leading to the rear, enclosed gardens. The ground floor also has a king-size bedroom enjoying views across the front gardens and a stylish shower room with walk-in shower. The first floor has two cosy and welcoming bedrooms. Choose from a twin room accessed via the snug, or the lovely super-king-size zip-and-link (that can be made into twin beds if requested at the time of booking). The cosy snug has a cushy chair and TV, and a contemporary family bathroom with a bath with hand-held shower which offers stunning views out over the Welsh mountains.

Outside, guests can enjoy the private enclosed rear garden with a patio area with seating around a fire pit/BBQ which benefits from external lighting in the evenings, and a lawned area with mature fruit trees where you can laze in the hammock. There is an external shed with storage for bikes.

Very comfortable and well-equipped. Easy to find, and easy parking. Secure garden for Bertie our dog. Beautiful areas to explore very close by. Bertie disgraced himself immediately on entering the cottage, as male dogs are prone to do, but was excused immediately by the dog-loving owner, Sue. Couldn't fault this lovely cottage.

We had a wonderful 1 week stay at this property. The property was very clean & a great size for 4 adults & 2 dogs. Rising Sun Cottage is one of the best we have stayed in. It was spotlessly clean, bright and airy (even in the older parts of the house), and well provided for in the kitchen. A comfortable, well-equipped base from which to explore the local area. A warm welcome from Anne, next door, and a generous welcome pack. Really well-placed for accessing the delights of the Forest within a few minutes drive and good local amenities, including supermarkets, bakery, deli, takeaways and cafes.
