The picturesque town of Malmesbury, said to be the oldest continually inhabited town in England, has a rich history dating back to the 5th century, and is surrounded by rolling hills and beautiful countryside, making it an ideal destination for a holiday with friends or family. Enjoy a walk around the town enjoying the historic jumble of independent shops, cafes and inns under the gaze of the stunning 12th-century abbey. The local farmers' market is a must visit, offering a range of delicious locally sourced produce and there is an award-winning deli and amazing ice cream parlour within 150 metres. Stroll around the antique shops in nearby Tetbury (5 miles) and visit the Highgrove shop with a unique collection of foods and homeware inspired by the Royal Gardens of His Majesty the King or visit the Town Hall to view the newly acquired Turner artwork. There are plenty of walking and cycling routes to explore along with a number of country parks and nature reserves to discover. Other local attractions include Westonbirt Arboretum (6.5 miles), famous for its stunning collection of trees, and the Cotswold Water Park (9.5 miles), which offers a range of water-based activities including kayaking and paddleboarding.

After a busy day exploring the stunning local area, make your way into the lovingly renovated Grade II-listed cottage, converted from a Victorian coach house and stables to enchanting accommodation. The cottage is within the grounds of the owner’s home but is a completely separate building. The spacious ground floor has two bedrooms, one king with an en-suite bathroom and a further bedroom with a king-size zip-and-link bed that can be set up as a twin set on request. The second bedroom also features an en-suite shower room, making this cottage an excellent choice for family and friends looking for a break away together. Moving upstairs, you will find the main living space which has been wonderfully designed to create a warm and homely area featuring exposed beams. It is all open plan upstairs with a lounge area with a TV/DVD and comfortable sofa and armchairs, a dining table to comfortably seat four and a desk area, ideal for home-working. The well-equipped kitchen is ideal to enjoy a home-cooked meal using some of the goodies you will be sure to pick up at the local farmers' market or deli.

Outside the property is a patio area with seating for four, perfect for a morning coffee and some breakfast. There is a further lawned seating area with a charcoal BBQ on a separate area of the owners' garden.  Guest feedback has included: "Really good accommodation, lovely to have the back door open and listen to the Jackdaws. Great for walking into town and exploring the alleys and streams and pubs. We will be back" and "We had a wonderful time here.  You have thought of everything to make Braxted Cottage a comfortable home away from home.  Thank you!"

A nice cottage in a great location in Malmesbury and to explore Cotswolds. Near to supermarket, pub, a great butcher/ food service and walking distance to town center. The cottage fits well for 2 grown ups (there are two bathrooms but one is very tiny). The owners are very nice and helpful and made us very welcome.

Braxted cottage is absolutely ideal in terms of location, comfort, equipment and furnishing. Its owners are a charming family who live next door and can provide helpful information about Malmesbury and the environs. We would certainly consider another future visit .
