Self-catering holiday accommodation in Chipping Norton

Chipping Norton, located near the top of a hill in Oxfordshire, began as a settlement at its base and by the Middle Ages was profiting from the wool production that made the Cotswolds one of the most prosperous areas in England. By this time the market place was located higher up the hill where the town centre is today. As time went on, sheep farming was gradually replaced by arable farming. A wool mill, called Bliss Mill, can still be seen when travelling on the west side of Chipping Norton on the A44 Worcester Road. Chipping Norton has also in the past had a tannery, iron foundry, brewery and a glove manufacturer. A great market selling local produce is still held in the town centre on Wednesdays.

For great days out locally, head to Blenheim Palace where you can wander 2000 acres of gardens and explore the birthplace of Winston Churchill, marvel the collection of Japanese Flowering Cherries at Batsford Arboretum, take a tour around Cotswolds Distillery and sample their gins and spirits, or discover the atmospheric Rollright Stones just down the road in Great Rollright. Nearby you'll also find the lovely towns of Moreton-in-Marsh and Stow-on-the-Wold to explore.
